The nutritional benefits of rice for runners
Organizing the Rice Party just before th marathon is a way for Uncle Ben’s® to offer marathon runners the opportunity of meeting each other and exchanging views before the race.
At sporting events, the competition is obviously important but so are the runners who help each other to finish the race.
By creating a dedicated area where all the runners are gathered together around big tables to enjoy great dishes made from rice, Uncle Ben’s wanted to highlight the importance of a friendly atmosphere.
For the marathon runner, it is essential to favor an amount in complex carbohydrates with a low glycemic index (< 55). The rice is an excellent alternative. Furthermore, the suggested recipes for the event are delicious and healthy. Uncle Bens is a true partner in the marathon runner effort.
- The glycemic index of the rice varies according to its variety and to its cooking. The best way of cooking: al dente, crisp not sticky. Avoid pilau rice, which is too fat!
- You can cook it salty or sweet: the rice helps the marathon runner to increase the complex carbohydrates amount in a varied way during the last period of training
Did you know?
The rice does not contain gluten. The gluten is the protein present in the seed of several cereals: rye, barley, oat and wheat. Gluten can also be found in pastas. More and more persons present intolerances to the gluten even coeliac diseases. For a better digestive comfort, the rice is perfect!
